Here is a link to download the current version WP-Backlinks version 1.1.1 (Latest Aug-31-2007)
I am glad to announce that I will be releasing my backlinks plugin I have been working on. It is a beta release as of July 25th 2007. I have a lot I want to add to this plugin but It seems to be pretty stable.I just need to get it out there and get some bug reports back from everyone. I hope this plugin makes it easy for you to gain backlinks and get your weblog as popular as it should be.
##Description##
WP-Backlinks is a plugin that makes it easy to trade and manage your backlinks on a weblog. There will be a form for other weblog owners to fill out in your side navigation with their site details and and the url to the weblog article that has a link to your site. Once the form is filled out WP-Backlinks will spider that page and make sure that they really did put a link to your weblog on that page. It will also log the page rank of that page. In the admin section you will have to approve any new links to be displayed on yourweblog so that there aren’t any inappropriate links going on your weblog. You can set a limit of how many links to trade per article. The default is five. Here’s the math. If you have a weblog that has 1000 articles and you trade 5 links per article of your weblog that would be an additional 5000 incoming backlinks. Your pagerank and traffic would definitely start to rise and any text-link-ads or what ever advertising you are doing if any would also become more valuable. There are a lot of features that I am going to ad to this plugin so stay tuned.
== Installation ==
1. Upload `wp-backlinks/` to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory
2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
3. go to your widgets admin tools located in the admin section under the presentation tab and drag the backlinks widget into the list.If you are using a theme that doesn’t support widgets just add this line of code to your sidebar.php page <?php widget_backlink(); ?>
4. To add WP-backlink to a page, create a page where you want your backlinks to go and in code format write <!–backlinks–> This will display your links and a description for each link.

July 26th, 2007 at 2:54 am I just stumbled across your blog and thought the title of the plugin sounded interesting, however, after reading about it I still don't know the purpose. Is the plugin designed to help a blogger build a reciprocal link directory (that's what it looks like from the available screen shots)? Or is for checking to see who's linking back to your blog? Possibly offering up a few more details about the plugin would be helpful to others who come across this entry, otherwise people won't be too inclined to download it and figure it out for themselves. Regards, ~ Teli
July 26th, 2007 at 5:00 pm @Teli Adlam I added a short description to give a better idea about this plugin. I plan on putting up a lot more information and populating the support forums. All are on my list of things to do.

I'm confused as well - what exactly do you get to 'approve'? If a link's been created then banning it from the admin panel isn't going to do any good.....???/
July 27th, 2007 at 10:27 pm Any link that is requested from another webmaster won't show up on your site until you approve it. So that spammers that are promoting the infamous Viagra product won't be able to get a link on your site. You would simply login to your admin panel and see new link trade requests and determine if it they are legitimate links or not.

July 29th, 2007 at 1:33 pm Hello, Nice plugin, I hope it will help me make my blog more popular. However I have a few questions: - What do you mean by "Reciprocal URL" ? What should visitors enter here? - If someone added my link. Then, I approve him. And imagine after awhile he removes my link from his website, what happens? Will I be aware? Will it be indicated in the options page of your plugin? - And now for example if I wan to add your link to my "Friendly Links" I have to enter your information from the "Backlinks->Add Link" Menu ? But if I don't know the reciprocal url? If I don't know your e-mail? And later if I enter my details at yours "Friendly Links" and you approve me, will everything work properly? Thank you.

July 31st, 2007 at 5:47 pm Just by letting other related sites know that you are accepting link trades will help. Most other webmaster will check out sites that are related to theirs and if they see a spot that says "add your link here!" they will jump at the chance. This will help you and them so it's a win win situation.

August 1st, 2007 at 4:05 pm One problem... I tried to put up a link to your site. But it won't let me because its not reciprocal. Got any ideas?
August 1st, 2007 at 4:34 pm You can still approve links that aren't reciprocal they will just say failed on the reciprocal link status.
August 1st, 2007 at 5:32 pm Hi again Eric, This time my question is whether you can alter the plug in so that whenever somebody enters text in the title line this to transform as a title-tag. Ok, you have already done this, however this also applies that appears on the web page. So, when somebody enters say 100 characters for title the text that appears on our webpages is 3 lines long and the web pages start to look messy. ---> For example somebody enters Title: this site has really nice reviews etc, etc, blabla URL: blabla.com And this result in {a href="blabla.com" title="this site has really nice reviews etc, etc, blabla"}this site has really nice reviews etc, etc, blabla{/a} ---> What I am asking is that if you can add another line, e.g. "caption" or even make it possible to enter the anchor text in the message box so that we can control how the link is displayed. I hope you got my idea? If you don't, just say I will try to explain it better or even visually. 10x for the plugin again. Nick
August 1st, 2007 at 6:10 pm I totally get what you are saying. I will modify the plugin and add some display options to the admin area to control the look of the side bar! Shouldn't take too long so probably by the end of the day I should have that finished. Thanks for the input!
August 1st, 2007 at 6:24 pm "You can still approve links that aren’t reciprocal they will just say failed on the reciprocal link status." Thanks for the tip. I'll go back and do that. I was trying to link to your site from one of our PR 6 pages and I was stumped. Thanks!
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:38 pm Hello, Will this also count the outgoing clicks. this information would be very helpful in determining the worth of a link. If I am sending out more traffic than I am getting back, then I would rather ditch the link for a better one.
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:53 pm It doesn't, I didn't want it to do any tracking because most people already have tracking for their site. I would suggest using google analytics, it shows you everything you would want to know. Sorry!
August 4th, 2007 at 5:27 am If possible - on the manage the links screen - it would be great if we could see the post that the link was added on. For example - I'm a lot more picky with our home page links than with the links that are on the sub pages. Additionally - several people have submitted links - and in the reciprocal field they put down our main site - another site that links to our blog. Any way to make the verify script confirm that the domain that links back in the reciprocal is the same domain as the one the page would be linking to.

August 25th, 2007 at 10:20 pm Hi there, first of all i like to say, awesome plugin, but i get an error at the top of my site: Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, 'backlink_head' was given in /home/toogpra/domains/toogpraat.com/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 123 and secondly if i add the line of code to my sidebar, it says call to undefined function. Is there comming a fix for this or is this caused by my template? PS: your contact form antispam on this site isnt working, or i am just dumb and 6+3 aint 9 ? =)
August 28th, 2007 at 4:15 pm could you create another file that strips out the javascript like you did before but for version 1.3? Maybe if you told me what lines of code you are taking out I can do it myself in future version (you know, that whole teach a man to fish thing). Thanks for all your help!
August 29th, 2007 at 1:08 pm In Wordpress 2.2.2, When I activate the your plugin, it show "Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error." Please advise. Thanks in advance.

September 9th, 2007 at 5:07 am great plug-in!!! I added the widget like you said but the Cutline theme seems to place the links form on the side of the sidebar not actually below in a list like you would normally see it. Have you seen this in other Cutline themes or has anyone had this problem? ...again excellent plugin...I just need to have it in the sidebar not to the side of the sidebar... Cheers!
September 9th, 2007 at 1:57 pm Hi Eric: Your latest version 1 for the WP-Backlinks Plug-in produces "1" error when tested for compliance with XHTML 1.0 Transitional using WP2.2.2. Below is a copy of the code that appears in my source code for the Links Page .... this is the sidebar portion of the code produced automatically by the plug-in. The error is in the single line halfway down: "" It should read: " I have checked your wp-backlinks.php code and can't understand why the "style" entry below does not have the type attribute and value included, as your code seems to be OK. Can you please examine this and advise as to how to fix the error. I am using WP2.2.2. I would like to retain 100% compliance with XHTML 1.0 and in many instances, this has required edits to plug-ins which I use to add various features to my blog. I want to get my setup perfect as I intend, very soon, to replicate it across 20+sites for "Internet Millionaire Blueprint" at http://InternetMillionaireBlueprint.com. Many thanks and I do hope you can help out! You will need to look at the source code version of the section below to view the actual code copy.
