Wordpress. We love it. We use it. It’s multi-functionable, flexible, adaptable, customizable and can be as simple or as complicated as you can/want/need to make it. For the professional blogger the best choice for online publishing platforms in my opinion is Wordpress. I have however been an “online journal” loyalist to Livejournal since I was about 15 years old and as far as personal “diary” type publishing goes, you can’t beat them in price, options, filters, and privacy settings.

If you are new at dabbling with the Wordpress platform or thinking about buying a domain and staring your own blog a great place to start is at Wordpress.com . What’s the difference between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org ? Simple;

Wordpress.com is a free publishing platform for personal blogs but have limited options and do not qualify in the sponsored post advertising market due to the blog having Wordpress in the domain title and it being stored on their home server.

Wordpress.org is a program that you download to your computer and when you have a host and a domain let’s you customize, monetize, stylize, advertise, anything-wise you want to your little hearts’ content. While you could get lost int he plugins and codes and programming forever and ever and ever it is by far the best as far as user controlled professional blogging platforms.

If you are just starting out I recommend you sign up for a free blog at Wordpress.com and use it as a set of training wheels while you are planning your professional goals down the road. The best part about having a free blog is that when you are ready to set up your host and domain, they will transfer everything over to your domain name and server, entries, templates, typos and all FREE. Not only that but they have a very large LARGE group of servers supporting the service, and even if something catastrophic happens (as paraphrased from the site..) such as California falling off into the ocean, your content will still be safe and secure.
