Do you pay attention to your alexa rank? I didn’t until I noticed that a lot of sites were using your alexa rank to decide things like how much a text link was worth. Another popular site for bloggers called payperpost uses it to determine what opportunities your site will qualify for. So it seems that the higher your alexa rank the more money you can make with you blog.
I wanted to see how accurate the alexa’s stats really were. I closely watched my stats using both server logs and google’s analytics. I then compared them to alexa’s graphs and they were actually very close. I used to speculate that they weren’t very accurate after reading all over the internet that alexa is always way off. Maybe so, but in my case alexa has stayed pretty closed to my logs. Maybe all my visitors have the alexa toolbar installed or maybe they have been aquiring data else where. I personally don’t use alexa’s toolbar because there is a better option. And if I had another toolbar I would only have like two inches to view websites j/k So has alexa found a new source for data? Probably not they just got lucky in my case. I have read other reviews that they were way off for other sites so I wouldn’t trust their stats. Having a good alexa score can open some opportunities though.
There is only one company that has access to enough information to have good stats for the internet’s traffic and that would be, of course, microsoft. Why? hmmmm if they were to gather information from internet explorer and display it like alexa they would be able to truly show what everyone is doing on the internet. Until then alexa tries to do their best and that’s all we can ask.
