Intel technologies has released a new breakthrough innovation in the form of long-distance Wifi technology. This technology allows two small wireless units to access Wifi satellites and bring internet access to areas where ground-cable installation and wiring would otherwise be inaccessible. These small gadgets are relatively cheap considering the alternative previously available with cable-wiring and routing. At about $1000 for a set of two of the small units, Wifi signals can be sent and received within a 60 mile radius!!! They are small, compact, and do not have bandwidth limits due to the satellite routing, so literally one set could power a whole village! The only draw back (sarcasm here..) to this service is that the units can’t reach further than 60 miles in diameter because of the curvature of the earth. Intel is planning to release these for consumer sale projected to launch later in 2008. It has already been tested with success in India, Panama, Vietnam and South Africa with great success rate.
As an added perk for your eco-nuts it has lower power needs and is easily juiced by solar panels. This is a remarkable breakthrough in global technology and I am excited that Intel has come up with a way to to reach people that previously were completely inaccessible to the internet in poorer rural areas. Soon we will all be on the net and it will TRULY be a global community.
