I work for the largest Southeastern Grocery Chain named Publix. We are a privately owned company yet we are in 5 states and have over 1000 stores. Publix was founded in 1934 by George Jenkins and now that he has passed away, the company is run by his family. I have had the pleasure of working with his grandson and other relatives of Mr. Jenkins.

One of the best things Mr. Jenkins did when he opened his first store was to make sure all his associates were taken care of and treated like family. To this day we are still treated like family. Seeing as we are a private owned company our stocks are not for sale to anyone but Publix associates. I have been with the company for 10 years this November and I have close to 2000 shares of stock.

Publix gives us free stock each year. It is based on the amount of time you have put in with the company. I also have a wonderful 401K with the company that has worked out great so far. Our stock was in the high 80’s last year when they split 5-1 and giving me more stocks. YAYA!!! Then of course they went as low for a bit and began a steady climb upward. At the moment it is at 16.05 per share.

I love working here and watching the stocks grow.
