Living near the Gulf of Mexico often brings storms that produce dangerous lightning. As much as you want to say the strikes across the sky are beautiful they are also deadly.
You hear where football players are struck and killed by lightning while practicing and some are severely injured. Homes are damaged due to strikes and often burned to the ground.
In Destin, yesterday, one of our famous restaurants was burned and although it was not by lightning striking it, it was due to the damage caused by lightning hitting an electrical component down the street from it. The bolt traveled through the wires and began an arcing of something electrical in the restaurant itself. Needless to say, it caught fire, and before the workers could put it out, severe damage was done.
The Whales Tail sits on the beach and the building itself is 30 years old. Popularity not only because it is on the beach but because the walkover is in the shape of a whales tail. People park on the other side of the road just so they can walk over it.
We all are hoping it will be rebuilt. If not, its another loss due to lightning.
