Over fifteen years ago I visited Destin for the first time and fell in love with the small tiny town. At that time it WAS a small tiny town. We entered into Destin from Panama City Beach and it was Christmas week. Who would have thought a town would close down during the holidays. Hungry and tired we could not find a restaurant in sight. Fast food places were “closed for the season” and we just were baffled. We finally made it to our hotel, then discovered they closed their dining area. Came to find out we were just one of families that were there.

Christmas dinner was at Waffle House. As was lunch and breakfast. Looking at it now as the town is so populated and nothing closes down now, I often wish for those days to be back again. Slower paced and less crowded.

I would walk along the beach at sunrise and then again at sunset. The views were breathtaking and I swore one day I would live down here. I ended up coming down to Destin 2 or 3 times a year and had a condo in the SunDestin where we were on the 18th floor and had the most beautiful view of the gulf.

I had dreams of moving here for so many years and in 1999 my dreams came true
