I was looking around the web today at companies that do domain registering for a site that I have been thinking about registering for quite some time. Upon some advice from a friend I was told that even if I didn’t have plans for the domain yet that I should at least register just in case so that someone else doesn’t decide to buy it and find myself out of luck. I looked at a few domain registering sites and it found that the domain was open, so I went to GoDaddy.com to purchase it not fifteen minutes later after a shower and found that it was already owned?! WHAT?
I started to get upset and visited the site and found a dummy page hosted by some company called domainauctions.com. I inquired to my friend what had happened and he told me that there are many MANY shady companies out there, and some that actually automatically buy a domain you search for on their site for the sole purpose of selling it to you later for more money. I was infuriated. While I should have figured with all of the internet crime and fraud happening every day that there would be companies taking advantage of individuals, but nevertheless I was surprised. Be careful of what sites you search for domains and make sure you do your research about a company before you give them any personal information, especially financial information!!!!!
