Somehow my computer has become outdated! I have a Pentium 3.2 GHz computer with 2 gigs of ram. I used to think this computer was great until we got new computers at work. we had a choice between mac or PC and I decided I wasn’t ready to jump on the mac bandwagon just yet. For a work station they are pretty good. I went with an Intel core 2 duo and 3 gigs of ram. It does pretty much anything I need it to. Some times I wish I had more ram when I formatting video but that’s about it.
Anyways so the point of this was to talk about my new computer that is currently sitting in a shopping cart. I am still not sure if I have exactly what I want. I decided to go with and AMD CPU because you can’t beat the performance for the money in my opinion. I have read that the AMD am2 chip-set cpu’s don’t run as hot as older amd’s but they still aren’t as good as Intel’s. So I upgraded my heat sink and plan on having some good air movement through my case so I think the heat issue won’t be too much of a problem. I chose the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor combined with a pretty nice Asus mother board and at a price of 279.98 for the combo I think that is a great deal. I found a combo on newegg “where i buy most my PC parts” and I have always had a great experience buying from them so they are where I look first for anything I might need. Anyway, the whole purpose of this post was to see what you think about amd’s new am2 processors, so let me hear it. If you try to talk me into a core 2 duo you better have a good argument because I priced that one out too and it was about 350 more then the amd setup and really don’t think I will be getting very much more performance but that’s just opinion.
